OfflineGoogle has pushed out another update and it looks like many of the strategies that we are using may have been affected. The thread is on Jonathan Legers forum. http://jlforums.com/search-eng…..imization/
I just wanted to get you opinion on that and what you have seen in your ranking. Even though I know I shouldn't panic over this it is hard not to
. In a nut shell I am wondering if your strategies are still working? Thanks!
(I hope it its OK to post links to other forums if not feel free to delete)
Ok, the latest Google algorithm that Jon is talking about is actually only in the process of being rolled out, the true affects will not be seen for a few weeks as this update is going to hit over optimisation.
Now there is a lot of panic that people with EMD's (Exact Match Domains) keyword in there title, keyword in the meta data and keyword rich articles are going to get hammered.
Not true, if this was the truth then Googles income source which is adsense would disappear. What they do not want is pure spam content.
There is a difference between keyword rich and keyword stuffed.
Below is a picture of an article that Matt Cutts himself has picked out as keyword stuffed and to be honest it is so obvious if you have been writing articles like that then you would deserve a bit of a slap.
The other is the use of irrelevant content, something we have warned against for a long time.
The image below shows a picture of a prime example, basically an article on keep fit, with links to a payday loans site.
What Google wants is for you to produce content that is worthwhile to the readers. It is believed that they can now (to some extent) tell if links to a site are in context with the contained article.
They will be punishing sites that have the keyword in the title 2 or 3 times, once is enough.
Quit using the Blog networks now, directly to the money site they are dangerous and to tier 2 links they are pretty much useless. While some networks might still have some sort of ranking they will not for long so just better to avoid them.
You should always make sure that your Title is readable and not a keyword stuffed. So if you can mention it once but not over and over,
a bad example using "make money online" as an example would be:-
Make Money Online – Brilliant Guide To Make Money Online – All The Tips You Need To Make Money Online
You may laugh but that is some a site I found, now THAT is a keyword spammed Title.
A better title would be something like
An In Depth Guide On How To Make Money Online From A Novice Perspective
The keyword is in the title so Google will know to look but it will not set alarm bells ringing.
I am writing a longer article that will cover everything that we need to know for this from a pure White Hat Perspective to manipulating it using Grey Hat methods such as SEnuke X. It will be ready hopefully tomorrow (26th Apr 2012).

It will probably be posted as a post in the News section, but that might change, I will post a link to wherever it is in this thread when it is live.
It has been slightly delayed because a couple of other factors have come to light so I want to investigate them to decide whether they are relevant or not before it is published. Probably be tomorrow morning (GMT).
Many people have been affected by these changes, I think it is safe to say that they are far from finished as some search results are returning useless results with empty sites ranking for highly competitive keywords as well as sites that have not been updated in years or have nothing to do with the search you entered.
Google's aim is to provide the best results for their customers so currently it is safe to say that they are not achieving this by wiping out some fairly big content filled sites with some total rubbish.
The future will be about providing a varied link base and not all one thing. Always keep an eye on the top 10 competition and see where there links are coming from, try and match them with extra and you are on target for a good ranking.
The thing that we are trying to point out is that Blog Networks made things happen pretty quickly, after this update we are more back to the way things were a few years back where SEO is a "gradual" process and not overnight. One major thing we need to point out that doubling your linking efforts overnight will not double your rankings as some people seem to think. The reason that we are in the process of upgrading this site is because we need to portray that SEO and high rankings is not all about link building. There are so many factors to consider. SEnuke is a Tool which fits in brilliantly to this however there is still much work to do around it to ensure you get your high rankings and hopefully we will be able to cover everything from start to finish.

OfflineA lot of my sites have also been badly affected by this latest update (I hear it is being labelled the Penguin update!). The phrase that you used as an example above -make money online – is one that has been highlighted as returning a ridiculous result at number 1. Also, the phrase python hosting has a blank site at number one. Anyway, any help pointing me in the right direction to regain rankings wold be much appreciated.
The algo change is not yet complete, so these sites that are at No1 will highly unlikely remain there. I know the site that you are referring to as being no 1 and it has gone now, it is basically Google dancing and fitting in with the Penguin update.
One thing that Google is focusing on is over optimisation so mix up your linking and do fit in with any fixed structure as this will make your linking look more natural. If for instance you are using the same senuke x template over and over and over again the it will get detected by Google.
It is easy however to mix up the linking and just add in a few more things like blog comments, wiki and most importantly add in social media with twitter and facebook links as Google know that these are good reflections of a websites popularity.

OfflineRudi said most importantly add in social media with twitter and facebook links as Google know that these are good reflections of a websites popularity.
How do you recommend going about doing this? Do you create accounts for every niche and post link with them or do you have "blanket accounts" that you post all your links to?
Thanks
Unfortunately most Good twitter software's have now been taken off the market because of a High Court action brought by twitter. However, while it means that the manual level of work has now increased it does not mean that we should not do it.
As long as the links do not come from the same sources (ie the same account over and over) then it is good.
Now from some experts who I have spoken too said that he only way to get full value for links is to use your own url shortener as some urls are just too long to post, however they are checking how the links react to using bit.ly which is know to pass on the link juice through the redirect.
The amount of tweets and facebook likes that are required to have effect are 500+ so this is something that I will need to look into.
Ok, the post on over optimisation is now live in the site news section at the link below.

Of course we will add more information to this as the effects of the Penguin update become available.
Thanks

In a small niche the problem is getting the balance right… lets use SEnuke again, it has a huge number of people promoting it and thus a massive amount of content is actually produced (of course lots of it is spam) and many twitter/facebook pages about it etc. However the amount of genuine content, and genuine possible customers, for SEnuke is actually quite small. So do you spam yourself up to the level where you may get noticed, or do you sit quietly and wait. Google wants you to sit quietly and wait, and then in theory your small amount of quality content is going to win. However so far in the history of SEO, where there is so much competition, being 100% White has never worked, because somebody will always cheat their way ahead of you. The problem now is if you go too far faking it then the Big G is currently hitting you with a big hammer…. in other words if you dont fake it you will not win, if you fake it too much you will not win…

OfflineHas anyone ever heard of this: http://twitterbots.info/retweet-bot/
Or possibly this one: http://www.incansoft.com/IS0048.php
Don't know if these are viable solutions or not. The idea of getting 500+ tweet/facebook likes just seems overwhelming to me, because I have a lot of niche sites.
Maybe I'm just lazy ![]()
